‘’The band started as two members wanting to create deep meaningful raw second wave black metal. As we progressed, we added our drummer & bassist from there we slowly began conjuring a unique sound that each member brings to the table.
‘’Our ritual is not only about summoning a feeling but also creating an experience for the listener when they see us live. We want to invoke an intense, dark, and abysmal atmosphere.
Unholy Altar is a creation born of chaos and darkness, music based in fury and atmosphere an unfiltered spirit steadfast in ideals and authenticity. Their latest release “A Sullen Dark Sky’ is a testimony to the power and fury of pure black metal that is unapologetic Raw and undeniably powerful
‘’We wanted to begin our journey into a more haunting, unsettling sound for the EP. The theme of this album was heavily inspired by growth, betrayal, grief, mourning, and transformation.

It's modern whilst acknowledging the second wave? A definite influence on the band?
‘’Absolutely. The second wave is a foundational influence for us. The spirit of that era is something we deeply connect with. We take elements from this and translate it into our own.
The power and chaos of darkness?
‘’We believe darkness represents more than just negativity. It can be a starting point for creation, which is a very powerful. Chaos can be shaped into something with purpose. So, we blend each driving force into a beautiful outcome.
All-consuming and to be embraced rather than feared?
‘’We embrace these forces and allow them to become a vessel for expression. By embracing rather than fearing them, we open ourselves to deeper exploration of the unknown. The darker realms of existence, emotion, and creation.
The melody and atmosphere that runs through it, part of a dark hypnotic subliminal force? ‘’The melodies and atmosphere are meant to act as a conduit. A hypnotic force
that draws the listener inward.

The recognition of inevitability?
‘’The recognition of inevitability is a reflection on mortality and the uncertainty of what lies beyond. We are drawn to that tension between acceptance and mystery. the possibility of something beyond, or the possibility of the void.
Unholy Altar is a celebration of black metal.
‘’Of course, we try to express the key elements of black metal. Our music delves into elements of aggression, ambience & darkness which is what the genre is known for
.What led you to its majesty and what it means to you not only as art but a lifestyle?
‘’We were drawn to black metal as the musical progressions and intense sound are unlike other typical metal genres. It is a way of expressing ourselves, a constant source of inspiration, and a reflection of the way we see and experience the world.
Has it become diluted with all the subgenres now in it?
‘’I feel it has always been evolving and transforming. The different subgenres are a great expression of how each artist interprets and perceives its spirit. While not every genre will resonate with everyone, I don’t see the evolution as being diluted.

The importance of presenting a true expression of oneself through your music or art?
‘’It’s very important to us to provide a true representation of ourselves through our music. We have never tried to fit an expectation or Mold that others before us have created.
How do you define extreme?
‘’Extreme is about intensity and fully expressing yourself without compromising.
Top 6 favourite albums of all time?
