The Other Side is the Third studio album from Norway’s Kalandra. It is wonderful expression and journey into the world of dreams, which captures their vital yet ethereal sound that is progressive, based in folk and defined by emotion.
As a gateway to the realms of dreaming The Other Side is a sumptuous multifaceted expression of desires and passions, delivered with an honesty and purity that makes this record uncluttered. It is such a vibrant record born of genuine feelings and very literal interpretations. ‘’Chasing Dreams” is exactly that, a beautiful conjuring accompanied by an up-tempo rhythm and gorgeous guitar solo. Beauty & the Beast is a journey of folk and electronic darkwave. A Ship Has Left the Shore is heartbreaking, its raw passion
woven into the very fabric of the record representative of the beauty within created with a sense of urgency to the performances reflecting the need to capture the moment before it fades to an intangible memory. Katrine Ødegård Stenbekk ‘s vocals are superb reflecting both strength and fragility whilst the guitar duo of Florian Bernhard Döderlein Winter and Jogeir Daae Mæland provide wonderful textures and depth to a diverse musical pallet that includes “Animal” and the coda that is ‘’Melancholic’’ more highlights of an album filled with them.
The Other Side is a beautiful uplifting album; it is a record filled with organic energy that feel rather than just listen to that is enjoyable on so many levels. Created with genuine passion and feeling it is a simply stunningly beautiful listening experience.
