Servant - ''Constant evolution is a necessity''

Farago – vocals, guitars is part of Germanys Servant, that since 2021 have terrorized the underground their own brand of melodious yet furious black metal. It is a sound that honours the past yet is full of progression that pushes the extreme genre forward into heavier more memorable depths. Every album is a celebration and Servant’s fourth album is the gloriously uncompromising ‘’Lux Ex Inferis’’ The definitive statement of Servant?
Farago ‘Hello, and thanks a lot to begin with. Well, I can't really judge for myself whether this is our definitive statement. But what I can say, at least, is that—just like with our previous albums—we once again followed our instincts. We are certainly very happy with the result.
It continues the evolution of your melodic black metal, but is so much more?
‘’The urge to create is a major driving force for us. Ideally, this naturally leads to a process of evolution. For us, this evolution has unfolded collectively since our first album; this is now our fourth album with the same lineup. Over this time, we have found a workflow that works well for us.
The key to creating chaos yet also making it memorable?
‘’I think creating contrasts is a really important point for us. They effectively reflect emotional states—whether it’s chaos, beauty, sorrow, or anger. These are all things that surely feel familiar to us all. Servant’s songs are often driven by extreme emotional states, and ideally, that is reflected in the music.
A grandiose experience where passion has no boundary?
‘’Ideally, that is exactly how it should be.
Tabala Rasa? Does it signal a rebirth? A slate to create a new canvas?
‘’Our lyrics are often open to widely varying interpretations. However, your question could certainly be answered with a "yes." Gnostic elements can certainly be discerned, even if the wording sometimes conveys a different message.
Glorification? A celebration of Decadence?
‘’In a certain way, it is indeed understood that way.
‘’One might say it describes a world that could be envisioned as a paradise, yet is actually defined by compulsion, transience, and indifference. Humans recognize their and learn not only to accept the cruel indifference of nature but to revere it as the ultimate truth, own insignificance and seek meaning—but find awe rather than solace.
Is it intentional to balance tradition whilst progressing and moving forward musically?
‘’Absolutely. Stagnation is not a desirable state for an artist. Just as in the past, we won’t change that in the future; anything else wouldn't be true to who we are. Constant evolution is a necessity for us. Yet, at our core, we remain absolutely true to ourselves. Servant was founded as a black metal band to dedicate ourselves to the cause without limits. We have no intention of changing that.
Does Servants music confront the listener to action and recognize their own potential?
‘’I would answer that question with a "no." Servant’s music comes from our innermost selves; in a way, we challenge ourselves. We cannot judge how the music is perceived by the listener. The fact that music, lyrics, and art are interpreted individually is a great asset to the work itself and keeps things dynamic.
The importance of presenting a true expression of oneself through your music or art?
‘’I would say that is probably the main reason why an artist does what he does.
The importance of black metal, how do you define it and its importance to you?
‘’For me, black metal is an expression of absolute freedom. It is probably one of the most extensive and intense genres that exists. It can be defined in a wide variety of ways. Is there a specific "black metal sound," and if so, how is it defined? For us, the content plays a crucial role in defining it as such. In my opinion, a prime example of this is Dissection’s Reinkaos. It is an absolutely magnificent album that I would unequivocally classify as black metal, even though there are certainly those who might see it differently.
Album cycle plans – world tour? Domination?
‘’Haha, no plans yet. But of course, world domination would be an option. In October, we will go on a tour with Firtan and Spere that will take place primarily in Germany.

‘’That one really isn't easy at all. But I think I would go for:
