The faceless multinational collective that is Thy Sanatorium have unleashed their debut self-titled sonic offering, that is raw brutal, yet also cinematic and symphonic, horrific and beautiful.
Thy Sanatorium has created an album that is more a journey than a collection of tracks. The Multiple vocal attack creates a pure sense of drama and chaos amongst the eight tracks within, the musicianship is without question, able to deftly maneuver some of the demanding musical challenges within. From The Excellent Extremity of ‘’I Monter’’, the epic ‘’ The End Consumes” and’ No Flag Left To Burn’’ Thy Sanatorium have created a blend of Melodic Deathened Black metal, that defies easy description, it is part gothic horror whilst also being deeply imbedded in the terror of reality. The guitar work is a soloist’s dream, everything is created for maximum effect, as punishing as it is melodic, yet never loses its sense of purpose or heaviness. It is as demanding as it is instant , the hidden layers and subtleties become darker and more rewarding on every listen, The immediacy of the Riff in’’ Torment ‘’is matched by the keyboard lines underneath, Whilst Devils Heart lurches between rage and acoustic prowess, as always the combination of male and female vocals trade off with a vibrancy and darkened energy that enhances the overall impact.
Created with a sense of the theatrical and cinematic, Thy Sanatorium is a tour de force through the realms of the underworld where horrors lurk in the shadows of the real. ‘’Thy Sanatorium’’ is a reflection to the darkness inherent in the human condition that is delivered with passion and urgency, its effect is immediate and lingers long. From the explosive opener that is “You May Call Me a Witch’’ Poland’s Hergeroth literally explode with aggression and immediacy on their sixth full length album “Soaked in Rot”
This pure aggressive black metal where the melodies are immediate at other times hidden between waves of vitriol and power. Hegeroths music is direct yet also intricate, the riffs containing a hidden texture and diversity that adds to the intensity of the music within as heard on “The Act of Lust’’ that rages between the various time changes all of them aggressive and dynamic. Soaked In Rot contains an atmosphere that is thick and cloying, the antagonism ever present especially on ‘’Błogosławieni Ślepi” and the hateful yet appropriate ‘’Hypocrisy Demands Blood’’. There is a dissonance that lurks within that is unsettling, the immediate chaos that is ‘’ Święte Szlachtowanie’’ also reflects the complexity of the song structures, yet the result is an instantaneous result of musical hellfire. The speed and intensity are matched by the riffs that are instantly memorable and with pure metal tempos that demand reaction.
Soaked In Rot contains an intricacy that never distracts from its assault on the senses and the purity that is extreme metal. It is relentless and remorseless, unforgiving both musically and in ethos. Hegeroth are bastions of the clarity and power of extreme black metal that reflects their intensity and excellence.
