Meschera - White Captivity 9/10
Russia’s ever prolific Meschera return with their latest single, White Captivity. A song that intertwines the past and the present, the bounty of love and the agony of revenge, a captivity that is forever white.
Meschera’s music is instantly recognizable from the level of talent involved and their innate ability to create atmospheric soundscapes that conjure the traditional pagan vast lands and the
ferocity of modern black metal From the first note it as always features the evocative incredible vocals of Alexandra Sidorova that range from haunting whispers to emotional screams and a fantastic riff in the middle section that is so heavy it demands you move to it. It marks an accessibility in a complex framework that is seamless and a continual evolution of the band. The musicianship is always exceptional covering a myriad of styles with aplomb, always natural intrinsic to the story being told.

From its subtle beginnings to its rousing crescendo White Captivity is a fantastic stand-alone track, yet hopefully it is a promise of a full – length album to come, it is a expressive release of storytelling that is romantic yet also tinged with sadness and darkness, it is a song of winter and the bleakness and ending that comes with it.
