EVEALE – Enter The Woodland Realm 8/10
The US, UK Collective known as Eveale offer their debut album of multilayered black metal to the powers of the nature, steeped in mythology and passion.
Simply Put Enter the Woodland Realm is a celebration of black metal by two accomplished musicians (known simply as the The North East Wizard Tyrant and Monarch of the Hillside ) and reflects their deep profound love for the genre whether it be the acoustic atmosphere of “The Beginning” the nineties conviction and self-reflection of “The Enemy” or the epic “Lament of the Dryads”.
This is however not a tribute or homage ‘The Final Quest” is beautifully melancholic with some excellent clean vocals and rhythmic interplay, whilst at others the tremolo and guitar work is downright inspired that imbues the album with an energy and brightness that comes from belief and intensity. This is an album that surprises on first listen yet on its third or fourth the textured layers and atmosphere reveal far more on offer delivered with musical aplomb and diversity some of the percussive instruments used are inspired whilst the guitar work on “The Ritual” is gloriously cinematic.
Enter the Woodland Realm Is a deep rewarding offering from a new project that is aware and celebrates what has come before but is unafraid to create their own pure black metal with a sense of mystery and spirituality that is uniquely their own.
Isegrim – Isegrim 8/10
The creation of A. Blackwar (All instruments /vocals) Isegrim began as a side project from the day-to-day duties of Mystic Circle that ran from 1998-2001. The project has now returned with the self-titled re- release that pursues and plunders the realms of extreme black metal.
Originally recorded in 1999 ( along with new bonus material), Isegrim is a reflection of the times, when black metal was becoming more grandiose and acceptable, the underground became a defiant anti-religious symbol of regression and vitriol ‘’Bestial Invasion’’ is a metallic offering blessed with a great riff and thunderous mayhem. Isegrim is blessed with a thousand riffs and employs every one of them to great effect, The result is blasphemous, ferocious black metal that is relentless and unforgiving, Scandinavian infused mayhem with scant regard for subtlety. A. Blackwar ‘s vision is absolute in his conviction and tradition, “Hear the Screams Of Hell’’ and “Seven Legions” continue the war inducing thunder and purity of the music, the inclusion of “Bestial Invasion” (Destruction) is apt and appropriate.
Isegrim serves as a reminder of majesty and the power of extreme metal. With new Music promised for 2027 ‘’Isegrim” serves not only as a reintroduction but a foretelling of the musical chaos that is to come…
