Ernte - Der schwarzen Flamme Vermächtnis 9/10
Ernte are bearers of the back Flame. Their music is pure black metal, misanthropic and full of atmospheric depth. The uncompromising duo of Askahex (Vocals, Bass, Violin) and V Noir (Guitars, Bass, Drums) have carved a reputation for unrepentant extremity that is genuine and Authentic. “Der schwarzen Flamme Vermächtnis’’ from the Swiss collective is their fourth release.
From the opening onslaught that is Warrior of the Black Flame and The Rise of the Older Ones, Ernte create and execute pure black metal that is aware of the traditions but blazes its own wicked path, from pure fury and hellfire to measured slower passages that are just as torturous, Ernte create and execute music that is atmospheric raw, dripping in viscera and wickedness that is intelligent and unforgiving. Lucifer is a tour de force in Hellinic tremolo riffing, tangible darkness that is complemented by the equally unsettling Lord of Ascending Flame complete with Askahex’s lurking spoken word incantations, whilst the riff of “To Ashes." And "Ritval Pyre" conjures pure majesty.
Music that is for the strong and of purpose, weakness in not permitted in any guise. Delivered fearlessly and with real aggression Der schwarzen Flamme Vermächtnis is an album that establishes Ernte as a pure extreme black metal force. Uncompromising in their vision, intensity, and remorseless of their actions. Highly Recommended.
Blood Countess - Imperatrix Sanguinis 9/10
Formed in 2018 Blood Countess is a UK based act that revels in the sins of the flesh and the lifeblood that runs through it, whilst also being steeped in the lore and acts of a certain Countess Bathory. Their wickedness runs deep and their second album Imperatrix Sanguinis continues a blazing path of black metal intensity.
Driven and led by the force of nature, that is The Cuntess, she delivers an unhinged vocal performance that drips in viscera and insanity. This is old school black metal that is delivered with a modern relevancy that makes a mockery of the modern polished variety. From ‘’Chains of Misdeed’’, ‘’Shackles of Sin’’ and the truly deranged ‘’A Humiliating Plea for the Glorification of Erotic Suffering’’, Blood countess have created something that is truly dark and horrific, the result is a an opus that makes used of wicked tempos and slower section to drive the madness home in at atmosphere that celebrates the pleasure of the flesh with a musical insanity, you can feel the blood dripping from the knife as it plunged into its helpless victims , with glee and sheer force of will as ‘’Sadistic Marchioness’’ demonstrates.
Imperatrix Sanguinis is a brief statement of black metal supremacy that toasts all things that make it pure and unacceptable to the mainstream, it revels its darkness and dread, with the musical ability to create the perfect soundtrack to the darkness within. Highly Recommended.
