Artanor - Devastating Hate     9/10

From its formation in 2006 artist Menelyagor has pursued the pure artistic creativity and the power of extreme music, after the fantastic majesty of 2023’s In Servitude of Darkness, new release Devastating Hate is its ultra-aggressive counterpoint.

From the beginnings of Devourer, this is a very different offering. There is no mistaking the Artanor DNA that runs through Devastating Hate and its apparent in the hidden melody that runs through The End of Beginning that is memorable and moving, yet the title track encapsulates Devastating Hate perfectly, this is faster, heavier, rawer. It is immediate and visceral, the atmosphere foreshadowed by the sheer bleak ferocity that runs through the veins of Anguish and its scathing guitar lines and vocals, a track that offers no solace or respite, the post black metal is there yet the immediacy of black metal is front and center its epic lines and arrangements simplified for maximum impact the tremolo ferocious and percussion unrelenting, pure extreme music  that is vicious filled with wrath and violence.

At a mere four tracks Devastating Hate dispenses with the fantastic and offers an immediate yet different perspective into the creative process of Artanor. The atmosphere a tonal opposite to previous offerings and more welcome for it. Menelyagor is an artist that cares little for convention or expectation, the creative process is paramount and that music that is muscular, extreme and oppressive speaks for itself.

Abramelin – Sins of the Father                       9/10

When you discuss Australian death metal Abramelin must be at the top of that list. from their inception in 1988 as Acheron that have been pure death metal from the very beginning unwavering in their extreme sensibilities. Sins of the Father is only their fourth album after the resurgent Never Enough Snuff in 2020 and it is more death metal excellence that borders on greatness.

Abramelin have always been famous for their breakneck speed and time changes and Street Art exemplifies this, yet it also has that neck-cracking groove that is inherent in their music. Unashamedly extreme there is a memorable element that runs through their music that is contagious and infectious and if you pick it, won’t heal.  Simon Dower is still the benchmark when it comes to extreme vocals and they are vital components of Sin of The Father that makes it such a relentless extreme piece of art, which is not without a touch of black humor as The Gory Hole …explores. Yes, this is horror-infused death metal that is blessed with a plethora of neck-cracking riffs and some downright brilliant percussion. Energy has always set Abremalin apart, and Last Rite and Deceased Estate deliver this in spades. Whilst Meet the Meat has a truly excellent solo amidst the aural carnage and don’t forget the Pure metal that is Last Rite!

Sins of the Father is a massive, precise, visceral piece of work that rekindles the passion for what made death metal so great in the first place. Pure undiluted excellence that whilst feels familiar, the blood stains are new and fresh. Buy this, see them live and hail the carnage. Highly recommended!
