Allarys - ''romantic black metal is the coexistence of beauty and sorrow''

Kurayami (vocals & all instruments) ‘’Allarys officially took shape in 2025, but its roots go much further back. Some of the earliest ideas were written around 2019 during one of the most difficult periods of my life. At the time, I never intended to create a band or even release an album. They were simply fragments of emotions that I could not express in any other way.
‘’For years, those unfinished songs remained untouched. Returning to them was not about reliving the past, but about finally giving those emotions a voice and allowing myself to leave them where they belonged.
‘’Black metal has always been the genre that speaks to me most honestly. It is capable of expressing emotions that ordinary words often fail to capture. At the same time, I never wanted Allarys to exist only within the traditional image of black metal. I wanted the music to be melodic, intimate, and emotionally vulnerable while still carrying the intensity that first drew me to the genre.
What is romantic black metal? What are you passionate about?
‘’To me, romantic black metal is the coexistence of beauty and sorrow.
‘’It is about the way memories continue to live inside ordinary things, a familiar street, the changing of seasons, the scent of flowers, or a melody heard years later. Those moments remind us that even though something has disappeared, its presence can still quietly remain.
‘’I think many people see sadness as the destination, but I see it differently. Sorrow is only the surface. What interests me is what existed before the sorrow, and what continues to exist after it. The music of Allarys is an attempt to preserve those traces.
‘’That is what I am most passionate about: giving emotions a place to exist long after the moment itself has passed.
‘’Giữa Muôn Hoa Vàng Rực Rỡ is much more than just a DSBM record? It is a very personal/emotional album?
‘‘’Yes, I believe it is.
‘’Depressive black metal is certainly one of the foundations of Allarys, but I never wanted this album to be understood only through despair. At its heart, Giữa Muôn Hoa Vàng Rực Rỡ is a very personal story about love, memory, and losing someone who is no longer part of this world.
‘’Before meeting her, my life often felt like dust - directionless and filled with confusion. She was someone who showed me warmth and kindness, and for the first time made me genuinely want to live a proper life. Losing her changed everything.
‘’The album follows that emotional journey. It begins with remembering, moves through longing, grief, dreams, and finally reaches the painful acceptance that some things will never return. The flowers in the title symbolize that idea for me. They bloom beautifully, but only for a while. Their beauty is inseparable from their impermanence.
‘’So, while the album carries the darkness often associated with depressive black metal, I hope listeners can also hear something else within it: gratitude for having experienced something beautiful, even if it could not last forever.
‘’At times fragile, other powerful with sadness and melancholy with a sense of the inevitable?
‘’I think grief naturally moves that way.
‘’Sometimes it is almost silent. It exists in a melody, a piano passage, or the memory of a place that suddenly returns years later. Those moments are fragile because they are deeply personal.
‘’But grief can also become overwhelming. There are emotions that eventually grow too large to remain quiet, and that is where the heavier guitars and harsher vocals come from.
‘’Nothing on the album was written simply to sound heavy or emotional. The music changes because the emotions themselves change
The tragedy of "Gió độc phương Bắc". Where is salvation?
‘’I do not think there is any salvation.
‘’Earlier in the album, there is still a quiet hope that love or memory might somehow be enough. Songs like Xin Trời Hãy Ôm Cô Ấy Giữa Muôn Hoa are almost prayers. They are not asking for happiness for myself, but wishing peace for someone else.
‘’By the time Gió độc phương Bắc arrives, that hope has disappeared.
‘’After losing her, I found myself returning to that same dusty road. Not because I wanted to, but because I no longer knew where else to go.
‘’That is why the song says, "I don't want peace. Peace is for the forgiven." It is not anger toward the world. It is the acceptance that some wounds never truly heal, and some people never find the ending they once hoped for.
The all-encompassing darkness of "Trong giấc mơ ấy... Tôi khóc..."? Is hope just a fantasy?
‘’I do not think hope itself is frightening.
‘’What frightens me is not knowing how long you are supposed to keep hoping.
‘’There comes a point were waiting for something that will never return becomes another form of suffering. Eventually, you stop because you are exhausted, not because you no longer care.
‘’That is the darkness behind Trong Giấc Mơ Ấy... Tôi Khóc... and, ultimately, the ending of the album. It is not about celebrating despair. It is about the quiet moment when someone realizes they can no longer keep waiting.
‘’Perhaps that is why the album begins by searching for someone but ends with the feeling that I will be the one to disappear instead.
The inspiration for the sonic soundscapes within Allarys? Epic yet also intimate?
‘’The sound of Allarys comes from the desire to create a space where emotions can fully exist.
‘’I have always been drawn to music that can feel both vast and intimate at the same time. On one side, I enjoy the atmosphere that black metal can create - something that feels larger than life. On the other side, I am also interested in the smallest and most personal moments: a simple melody, a piano line, or a quiet passage that feels like a private memory.
‘’That contrast is something I wanted to capture throughout Giữa Muôn Hoa Vàng Rực Rỡ. The music can become powerful and overwhelming, but it can also suddenly become fragile and close, almost like someone quietly sharing a memory with you.
The freedom that comes with being the sole creator of music and having 100% of your vision realized?
‘’Being the sole creator of Allarys gives me complete freedom to follow the emotions and ideas behind the music.
‘’Because the project is very personal, having full control over the songwriting process allows every element - from the riffs and arrangements to the lyrics and atmosphere - to serve the same emotional direction.
‘’For me, the most important thing is not perfection, but honesty. I want Allarys to remain a true expression of what I feel and what I want to create at that moment.
The importance of presenting a true expression of oneself through your music or art?
‘’I think honesty is one of the most important things in art.
‘’For me, creating music is not about trying to fit into a certain image or creating something that people expect from black metal. It is about expressing something that feels real.
‘’Especially with a project as personal as Allarys, pretending or exaggerating emotions would remove the meaning behind the music. The songs exist because there were feelings that needed a place to go.

‘’Choosing only six albums is extremely difficult, because different records have influenced different parts of my musical taste. These albums represent some of the qualities I value most in black metal: atmosphere, emotion, imagination, and personal expression.
Eldamar – A Dark Forgotten Past
‘’This album represents the power of atmosphere and immersion. I love how Eldamar creates a dreamlike and forgotten world through its combination of black metal and ambient elements. It shows me that music can create an entire landscape inside the listener’s imagination.
Summoning – Oath Bound
‘’Summoning has always fascinated me with their ability to create a sense of scale and adventure. Oath Bound feels like a journey through ancient landscapes, showing how black metal can become something epic and cinematic.
Sadness – Somewhere Along Our Memory
‘’This album represents the nostalgic and emotional side of black metal that I deeply connect with. The music feels like fragments of memories — distant, fragile, and beautiful, like something from the past that can never fully return.
