The Damnation continue the legacy of pure heavy/thrash metal from Sao Paolo, Brazil. They have just released a video for the single World’s Curse , which will be available on their first EP, “Parasite” due soon. This three piece conjure the sounds of thrash metal in the 21st century, raw accomplished and full of energy;
Renata Petrelli (guitars/vocals) “Uhn.... Wasn't that planned hahaha, But I love bands such as Megadeth, Kreator, Anthrax and Testament, so maybe I just have too much influence of their music =).’
The Damnnation was formed in February of 2019, right after I left my ex-band and we had our first rehearsal in May 18th of the same year =)’
“Since I was a kid I have been listening to great guitar heroes, such as Mark Knopfler, to name the first guitarist I paid attention, ha-ha. About to sing it wasn't planned, was a necessity. I already liked to play and sing as a hobby, songs of some bands I like, but never thought to do it for real, but as the necessity came, why not? But you know, I am new on it yet, so I am still learning and improving myself.”
However it was intentional to forma an all female line-up .”Yeah, it was! In a world (still) majority male, we want to show that girls can do heavy music too =) Reaction has been great so far! I didn't expect that so fast, lol’
‘I am self-taught. Just last year I started to take lessons more seriously. My original influences are mainly rock n' roll from the 70's, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Creedence, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Rainbow, Lynyrd Skynyrd. And a lot of grunge, some traditional Thrash Metal like Megadeth, Metallica and Testament, Southern Rock and Stoner. ‘
As a vocalist “Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke! Kai Hansen from Gamma Ray/Helloween, James Hetfield from Metallica, and Mille Petrozza from Kreator. “
Thrash metal is her favourite style ‘Probably is fav genre compared to other styles of metal. Younger I was really into power metal, so probably would be my second favourite style. ‘
‘In my opinion, is to make this music because you love it, not to make this music to get noticed. Everyone knows who is for real who isn't. So, once you do it for passion, things come naturally.’
“Our passion is for our music and to don’t try to sound like anybody, just like ourselves.’
The scene is Sao Paolo? “Well the scene here is more prolific than other cities, of course. But Metal and rock aren't that popular, but yeah there are some cool clubs to play live.”
The Damnation is also busy with videos.’Just one, that is World's Curse. Apocalypse still will be released. The idea behind Apocalypse is to mix what we are living right now and what the lyric tells more about: a person that does a lot of mistakes and it is the own apocalypse. ‘
And an album is on its way? “An EP first, named "Parasite". But we already have a lot of songs to work on for a next one”
Plans? ‘A lot of concerts in 2021 and a new album is on plans, too.’
