Gneisti af eldi Guðs (A spark of God's fire) is the second album from Iceland’s Valfurlogi. It is a masterclass in modern melodic black metal that is as experimental as it is uncompromising and extreme.

 Gneisti af eldi Guðs reeks of a maturity that comes for compositions created over a twenty-year period. For all the chaos of the title track there is a methodical almost mathematical urgency to the riff that threatens to spin out of control from the rhythm section. In comparison Vitjun feels almost introspective, a lingering serenity found deep within its core and its dissonant time changes. The flame of life and man is an ever-present thread throughout the album that feels personal, the atmosphere wrought from knowledge and the steadfast ability to persevere. It has a 90s thread that is engaging and diverse yet it is no homage at times wildly experimental both vocally and musically, this is black metal that defies all expectations ‘Úr himinsölum’ (From the Halls of Heaven) is the prefect representation, epic yet raw in delivery, a celebration of structure  and chaos, musical theory  and raw emotion, its middle section a surprise of acoustic excellence.

The riffs are mighty and majestic, pure examples of extreme black metal. It reflects the

emotional and intellectual integrity without hampering the bands’ ability to rage with pure fury. Gneisti af eldi Guðs blazes and surprises with an emotional gravitas that comes only from experience and is matched by the incredible musical prowess on display. The result is an exciting, intense, and incredibly addictive album that demands your upmost attention.
