Nidorous - Mallika & Serge's Brutal Death Metal Project!

“Putrescent Serenity over Fragments of Heinous Copronecropsy” is three tracks of utter brutal insanity from Nidorous. A new project from Mallika Sundaramurthy (Vocals) of Abnormailty with, Serge Rhino (Guitar/bass,) and Milan Moškon (drums) of Epicardiectomy. An underground supergroup based in Prague, their self-funded release has sold out and a project this good makes you wonder how they got together and why it took so long.

‘Serge and Milan were thinking about starting a blasting brutal death metal band for a while, something different from their main band Epicardiectomy. It was something they were jamming in their free time. Around the same time, I (Mallika) was telling Serge I missed practicing with a band since I moved to Prague and was so far from Abnormality. He suggested I join this project with him and Milan. So, we started jamming together last year (2019) and recorded the promo at the end of the year. ‘

Nidorous definition is smelling of or like burning or decaying animal matter. How did you choose the name?

‘We were looking for a name that suited the filthy sound of the music. The main objective of the band is to keep the music as raw and primitive as possible, straight and to the point It’s basically a big ‘fuck off’ to the trending overproduced sound which a lot of modern death metal bands are using.’

It also affects your lyricism. Is this at odds with your vegan lifestyle?

‘The name goes along with the theme of the lyrics. The lyrics are generally about the stages of decomposition and decaying flesh.

At odds? Not at all. It’s about the disgusting smell of rotting and decaying animal matter (human too). We do indeed support a vegetarian/ vegan lifestyle, but the band isn’t really about that. ‘

It is also nothing like your other projects. Is this deliberate?

‘I would say so. We wanted an outlet to express something different, to try something different, more raw and unproduced.’

This is brutal death metal. Did anything in particular inspire it or was it jamming and having fun.

‘Initially it was just for fun. We wanted to do something super brutal and unprocessed. When we recorded our promo, we didn’t really expect it to be something people will get that excited about. We did it mostly for ourselves. But we were happy it got such a good response.’

What influences Nidorous musically and overall?

‘When we started Nidorous we were inspired by bands like Brodequin, Disgorge, Enmity, Putridity, Orchidectomy, Heinous Killings etc., late 90’s and early 2000’s brutal death/grind.’

Your debut is the craziest 8 minutes of the year! Is there anything else planned for release?

‘Thank you, we appreciate that. We just announced singing with New Standard Elite. We are now working towards a full-length release for 2021. ‘

The response so far has been excellent. Are you surprised or have you been expecting it?

‘We didn’t really know what to expect. We thought people would either love it or hate it. We are glad it’s the latter.’

Does self-releasing it allow you full control?

‘We self-released because it was the first promo and we wanted to see how people would react. ‘

Do you have lots of material and the overall plan for the band?

‘We have a lot of ideas, which we will now put into a full-length album. Besides that, we don’t really have a solid plan, we will let it grow naturally and see where it goes.’

What ideas/riffs make it to Nidorous compared to your other projects?

‘We are less controlling with this band than our other projects because it’s more relaxed and fun. The song writing process so far is faster and easier.’

Is this going to be a regular thing?

‘We weren’t sure at first but since people like it and we are enjoying it, seems like it will be a regular thing.’

Can we expect to see Nidorous live?

‘As of now we are a studio project, but we aren’t opposed to playing live if the right opportunities arise.’

You are both incredibly busy how do you find the time for everything?

‘We are just those kinds of people who love to be busy and love music. So, whenever we have free time, we are automatically filling it with projects. Our bands, our record label (Ultimate Massacre Productions), etc. ‘

You are both proud to be associated with brutal extreme metal. What makes it so vital for you?

‘We both have been involved in the scene for many years. When you are doing something for over 20 years, it becomes a part of you, becomes your lifestyle. We do it for the love of the music and the love of the scene. ‘

How do you define extreme music?

‘Extreme music can be many different things, but it is basically everything that goes against the mainstream. It’s an attitude and a way of life.’

Are there any limits to where it can go?

‘’Extreme music should be without limits for sure.’’

Future plans… ‘We are going to release an album with NSE and then see what happens.’
